📐 Civil Engineering Mass Formula
About This Asphalt Paving Engine
Our Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Calculator determines exact material requirements based on the volumetric density of compacted stone, sand, and asphalt cement. It first converts your area and thickness inputs into raw cubic feet (Volume = Length × Width × Depth).
Because asphalt is ordered by weight rather than pure volume, the engine applies the civil engineering standard density multiplier of 145 pounds per cubic foot (approx. 2322 kg/m³). The resulting mass is converted into US Short Tons (2,000 lbs) and Metric Tons, incorporating your specified Wastage Buffer to ensure you have enough material to account for uneven subgrades and edge compaction.
